i can oddly ping yahoo if i type in the ip ping 66.218.70.48, but i cant ping www.yahoo.com
whats with that O_o

It is a problem related to DNS. Why you ask? Well if you can type in ping and an ip vs ping and a name this means you have NO DOMAIN NAME SPACE RESOLUTION (DNS). Which is basiclly a relation of all www..com to 10.0.0.1 in the world. I would make sure your getting your DNS server #s from your ISP and not hardcoding them (typing) unless specified by your ISP. It definitly a DNS issue, check out your ISPs webpage for more information on how to configure your router/modem properly.

Make sure that your desktop is getting DNS info from the router thru DHCP. I would set your TCP/IP settings for the IP address tab to obtain IP address automatically, click WINS configuration and select use DHCP for WINS resolution, click the Gateway tab and ensure that there are no entries in the installed gateways section, and click the DNS tab and disable DNS (make sure there are no entries). Click Bindings tab and ensure that TCP/IP is bound to "Client for Microsoft Networks".
Hopefully that will get you up and running.
