Yes, StuartS, of course I entered the pre-shared WPA key into the router, after first verifying that the router worked as an unsecured device, with SSID broadcast on. Communication and Internet access was good (if I dare call UNsecured wireless "good"), but after the securing by entering the pre-shaped WPA key into the router (with SSID still on), the Windows-7 based laptop computer detected the SSID (and displayed the SSID name), along with a bar graph indicating very high signal strength. But I didn't find anywhere that I could enter the same pre-shared key into the (wireless) laptop!
