I have tried several times to set up network between the two, but have failed miserably. if anyone can help with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am connecting through a hub, and I use cable to access the internet. Have not been able to even share the printer.

How do you want to network it?
Most people use TCP/IP... but I don't use it unless you have a big network.
It's easier if you use NETBUEI protocol.
(Install that on both PCs, and this takes care of my in house file sharing)As with printing, I am unsure, since Netbuei isn't routable... not sure if it supports printing. So... might need to use TCP/IP for that.
XP don't have Netbuei protocol anymore... Microsoft don't plan to use it anymore. So, in order for you to get it... Look for: Netbuei.txt on your WinXP CD (It will tell you what to do)
Good Luck

Buy the linksys 4 port router. It is very easy to install. Then install the tcp/ip and the netbuei protocols on the 98 system. You may also need to install IPX/SPX. Make sure that you are not sharing printers and files on the tcp/ip protocol. Win XP does not include the netbuei protocol so follow this link to install this. http://users.oco.net/stmute/ I could not get mine to work until I installed these. You do not need a crossover cable the router will do it for you. This should get both computers communicating. Go to start, settings, printers right click your printer and choose sharing. Also do this with any file you want to share. Hope this helps

In support of Goofy above, I had the same problem when my kids got a new computer with the XP OS and we added it to a hub-based network that was getting the internet through a server with 2 nic cards running Win98SE. I got a router/switch and everything works again. The XP box is configured for TCP/IP and NetBios. The other boxes (3xWin98SE and 2xWin95B) are configured for TCP/IP and NetBEUI.
