Hi all,
Been surfing the boards for a week looking for info on any known issues/fixes for Internet file download problems people are experiencing with Win ME.
I'm on an AMD 1.3 128MB using Westel WireSpeed DSL modem and SWBell Internet Service. Tried both Enternet 300 v1.5 and RASPPPOE .95 PPPoE adapters. Tried both IE 5.5 SP1 and Netscape 4.72.
The problem is:
When I try to download a file, either through clicking a link or right click and "save as" the file download is initiated, but stops after the first packet is received (typically 6-12Kb). The download will not continue past this point. I've tried a download manager (GetRight 4.3) and it doesn't work either. FYI - The problem appears unique to Win ME as I had no problems prior to upgrading (or downgrading...) from Win98 SE.
I can browse fine, just downloading files is a problem.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Get rid of ME, try 2000 instead or go back to Win98 SE, I am a consultant with a low opinion of ME due to its instability and
issues with previous setups. I don't have an answer for the downloading aspect as browsing is reciving more than one packet for most sites wouldn't you think. It may be just a driver update you require from your hardware manufacturer - modem, Mainboard etc. Try 2000 would be best I think. Sell that ME to someone else who has a pre P2/3 or AMD K5/K6/K6-2. It is too cut down to function well in my opinion.
cheers, good luck

Hi, I'm also having problems with downloading files using IE 5.5. I, too, got rid of Win ME and have Win 2000 on my PC. When I try to download a file using IE 5.5, the file is automatically displayed on the browser without asking me if I want to open it in the current page or save it to disk (No Download File Dialog box appears) But when i try to download the file using IE 5.0, the problem doesn't seem to occur. Thanks!
