I have recently purchased a PII 233MHZ running Win98SE. I have a NIC in it and two NICS in my PIII, (one NIC connects to the cable modem and I assume the other will connect to my PII), running XP Pro. I connect to the internet via cable through my PIII. I would like to share internet access with the "new" PII.
I have set the PC's up under the same workgroup, with different names. This is about as far as I got. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to share any files or printing, just be able to connect the PII to the net.

Although file and print sharing are something you are not interested in, are you able to do so? If you are than your network setup is fine. Problem lies with needing to route your Internet connection. Go buy a router with a built in switch. Run all of your equipment through that. Just my opinion, "set both your PCs with a static IP address, but make sure they are from the same sceme and subnet mask as your new router. Your default gateway will be the address of the router.
I hope this helps.

Got it working! No need for a router. The essential key to doing this is a crossover cable. Duh!
Also, yes, the PII NIC has to have a static IP as well as the NIC I use for LAN (not Internet) access on my PIII (192.168.0.2 and 198.168.0.1, respectively).
Once that is established, DNS on the PII MUST BE ENABLED AS THE PIII's IP (192.168.0.1, name and domain can be anything).
Simplicity. No NetBeui needed or special hardware/software. Just TCP/IP configured correctly, as stated above.
