trying to network to pc's with win98se...

2nd PC has 1 nic card..manual ip (192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0)...

1st PC has 2 NIC cards....1st NIC configured for auto IP and is connected to cable modem....2nd NIC has manual IP (192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0) the 2nd NIC is connected to the other PC via crossover cable.

PC's are in same workgroup, and both use netbuei and tcp/ip...but they cannot see each other in network neighborhood. can't ping each other either. They can both ping their own ip's though. any ideas how to make them be able to share files??? I think the problem is with the 2 NIC's....when I run winipcfg the 2nd NIC shows all my manual config info. but it also lists default gateway, which I did not set for that NIC...any help would be great...Thank you,
Joe

I would make sure that you have the right ethernet cross-over cable, a good one

I have the same problem, but in winipcfg, it does not show the second NIC, in network neighbourhood properties its there and I have configured it, but cannot ping itself.

matt,
I started out with same exact problem....I had to take 2nd NIC and move it to different PCI slot (ended up having to switch it with my dial modem)....but then it showed up in winipcfg....still can't see other PC though...hope that helps

Did you look in device manager to see if you have a problem with your NIC

Do you have one NIC in each machine?

I'd say scrap the 2nd NIC in that computer, and go buy a router. 100 bucks can get ya a router with a built in 4port switch, and will work as a DHCP server for ya. No NIC conflicts to worry about.
