I was just given an old Toshiba laptop with Windows XP installed on it.
I have an old desktop computer running Win 2K
I'd like to try to create a peer-to-peer network between the two computers, but don't know where to start. I tried for months to network two desktop computers, one running 2K and the other XP. I could never get it to work.
I've found here some very old posts with many different suggestions on how to network Win 2k & XP. But I don't know where to start.
I'd be grateful for some help in taking the process step by step.
I'm a disabled senior and due to chronic health problems I'm not able to sit up at my computer for very long before I have to lie back down again. So I have to break computer projects down into bite sized steps.

Do you have a router? What type of internet service do you have?

Hi guapo,
Yes, I do have a router.
My ISP is a free dial-up called NoCharge.com

I never had any success in sharing a dialup connection. There are ICS programs but I never got any to work. Maybe someone else can be of more help.

Hi again, guapo,
I don't need to share the internet connection with both computers.
I just want both computers to be able to "see" each other so that I can swap files back and forth between the two computers.

If they both have network cards in them, connect both of them to the LAN ports on the router. If DHCP is running, you won't have to assign IP addresses. Give both of them the same workgroup name.
