I'll try and keep this brief:

A friend (and a friend of his) are having trouble with a specific online banking site (nationwide.co.uk) which is perfectly accessible but when trying to make an online payment just stops. The company have blamed the Router MTU settings (both using the same and the same ISP - Alice in France) and say that it affects those who use a router as opposed to just a modem - so that'll be 99% then! Neither have any problems at all with anything but this one site.

In one case the PC was transported to a different location with a different router and ISP and worked perfectly thus eliminating the PC as that as source of the problem.

This is where it gets interesting, yesterday a friend visited with a laptop and via the WiFi manged to access the site and flawlessly perform a transaction which seems to suggest that the problem is with the ethernet side of the router. They have looked but cannot find any reference to MTU either on the WiFi or ethernet side so the question is where do they go from here ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I cannot advise you on how to resolve the problem but can only say that a similar situation arose at a Bank I used to work at in Australia. The Internet Banking Payments system had a conflict with one particular type of router in relatively common use and it took months to sort out. In many cases the customers replaced their routers ( or changed banks)

Have you tried upgrading the firmware of the router?
Do you have another ethernet port available where you could test?
I had a similar problem that I resolved with a firmware upgrade or you could try a reset on the router as well.

Resets tried and ditto other port (a little credit please lol)

With regard to updates, the problem is that the router is supplied by the ISP and customised so none available outwith what they provide.
