Comment: I have a laptop with wifi, and a desktop with usb wifi & broadband internet. I want to use xp internet connection sharing to use internet in the laptop. first of all, the laptop detects the desktop wifi and connects, but there is not data transfer between them! is that becuase I need a wireless router? is wireless router and access point the same? if i connect the wireless router with desktop then would i need the other wifi adaptor in the desktop? is it at all possible? Thanks

Reply: (edit)If you have the wireless adapter built into the laptop then you should (or at least I would) Get a wireless router/access point. I run two wireless connections and one hardwired of a D-Link DI-514. Setup was fairly easy as long as you follow thier instructions. Its best to first set up the hardwired, if your first pc is close to the modem. The other thing is to check your laptops network settings as you may not have them set correctly. I had a similar problem when I initially setup the laptop it would see the wireless connection signal was strong etc. but the laptop (Acer) had a MAC bridge, I had to disable this inorder to get a good connection, so if your see that your wireless is showing up in the "Bridge" area of network connections this would be your problem.
