Dear Friends!
Recently I bought an access point TRENDnet TEW-310APBX, 2 PC cards-1 TEW-226PC for the win 98 laptop and 1 TEW-421PC for the XPPro laptop. The Desktop PC XPHome PIV 3.0 has one D-link DWL-520+PCI wireless card, one Ethernet card for the one way cable modem that connects to the internet and a 2nd ethernet card PCI that connects the Access point to the desktop via a 5-hub, the AP on the uplink and the desktop 2nd PCI ethernet to the 1st port of the hub. The connections with the wires are all straight. I used Sygate previously on a hub wired network and it was all really fine. I wanted to sit by the pool and do some work therefore I decided to get wireless as well as to use it with my job that has this possibility when I am travelling. Now, I made an infrastructure wireless network and it went ok, all the computers can see each other, ping each other but the 98 laptop cannot get into the XPPro laptop on the network neighborhood, neither can the XPHome desktop but this is less of a problem as the XPPro is my work PC and is best left undisturbed. The XPPro can see and get into both the others. Now, it seems that the LAN connection goes over the wirelss networkbut no traffic is visible on the sygate programme although I have selected the wireless card for network traffic on the sygate. Internet is fine over the one way cable on the desktop but NOT on the 98 laptop or the XPPro laptop although the sygate client icon on the 2 clients is blue and apparently correct. I managed to connect the 2 clients via the analog x proxy programme but only for HTTP and not able to get the email, ICQ or the news working which was possible on the wired hub before. I have static addresses on the wireless cards with no DHCP enabled andno DNS (XPPro 192.168.1.4; win98 192.168.1.3; wireless desktop XPhome 192.168.1.5; ethernet that connects to the hub and the AP 192.168.1.2 and the access point has 192.168.1.1). On the desktop card that connects to the cable modem has its IP address given by the ISP when I connect. On the Sygate I have chosen this card as the internet connection and the wiress card of the desktop as the network connection. What is going on? Could you help a bit? I see you are really good on many issues and therefore I am begging you for help, so many late nights and no result!

by the pool and the net!

WOW! That was hard to decifer. My head is still spinning.
OK.
Run the network setup wizard from the XP HOME CD on the 98 Laptop.
Make sure you have the same logon on the 98 and XP Pro machine as you do on the XP HOME machine.
And for goodness sakes.
Give the client machines the DNS server IP adresses of your ISP. This will help out greatly while surfing the internet.
And give each client PC the IP gateway of the HOST PC. Which should be 192.168.0.1
That is windows default assign IP to your network connection. When you make the changes. Reboot each P.C.

You should be good to go.
