wifi problems

Specs: Windows Vista and 7
Please can any one help I have my Toshiba laptop with windows vista upstairs on 1st floor in a shared house with other wifi users but when i try to use my other laptop an asus x5dc with wind 7 both on wifi at the same time the asus goes very slow and takes for ever to work especially on hotmail there is a microwave about 3 feet away from both what could the problem be any help would be appreciated

Can you provide information on the wireless NICs on both the laptops and the make and model of your wireless router? This will provide more information on the scenario your facing. The microwave is most probably intefering with the wireless signals as it also operates in the 2.4Ghz range.
