wifi connection not working

March 30, 2011 at 14:17:25
Specs: Windows XP
ok,I have a wifi connection to a working router, three other wifi devices are working fine wirelessly, and the computer that cant get date from the internet works when I plug into the router via ethernet cable. I get sent packets but zero 0 received packets, every thing was fine and the only thing I have done recently is get an iphone4 and spend some time getting it personal hot spot to work.

I have tried: rebooting, removing firewall ( Norton), repairing connection, setting up new connection, swearing at the screen all to no avail.

Any ideas:?? XP

it may be the wireless NIC has gone bad.

you can get a wireless adapter that is just a USB stick and try that

Think you computer is not connected to wireless router correctly, you can try to use this ping tool to troubleshoot the network problem, probably could help.

ping won't help much besides checking loopback

He has stated that he is getting nothing from the router when connected and ping will only show the same problem.

the problem is his direct wireless connection which isn't showing a proper connection and ping will only confirm that

pinging might tell him if his NIC is bad, but it can still work and be broke

Hi Chris,
I popped a usb wireless adapter into the laptop and it worked fine. Not a solution as I dont want to buy another wireless adapter for a machine with wireless adapter built in.

If the laptop is under warranty then RMA it. Otherwise you will need to contact the manufacturer to see about getting it repairs.
