Comment:

I have a Dlink router with wireless capacity(std 802.11b)connecting two desktops and two laptops. The desktops are cabled and the laptops wireless via Dlink PCMIA cards. The network works fine and all machines can acess the net.

Now the problem,

I just purchased a toshiba Portege with Wi-Fi. This laptop finds the network and accepts the encryption key. Status is connected and shows excellent signal strength. using either the Wi-Fi or a cable to the router it sends packets but does not recieve any (hence net and network don't work), I belive not recieving packets from the router is the source of my problem but don't know what to do about it.

Please help I have tried running the wizards

How do you know that it's not receiving any packets? Is it receiving an IP address?

Here's the solution:

-Goto the D-link router configuration site (198.168.0.1)
-Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top, then click the "Performance" button on the left
-Change the "Preamble" setting to "long"
-Wait for router to restart, close programs, and try to get on the internet.

Hope this helps others
