have home network with a desktop computer connected to a router via ethernet cable and laptop computer using wifi connection. The laptop wireless connection suddenly stopped working. I can connect to the network on the laptop if I use an ethernet cable, but not via a wireless connection. I tried to do ipconfig /renew, but got some kind of message saying the the media was disconnected. any ideas?

Thanks

If the wireless connection wizard doesn't detect your wireless network then either it's stopped working or your router's wifi has stopped working. Move the laptop to the room with the router so there's no question about signal strength. Refresh the wireless networks in the area and see if it finds it. (If not you might run down to a Starbucks or somewhere with a public access point to see if the adapter is working.) Check the adapater under the Hardware Configuration and see if the drivers are X'd out. You may need to reinstall the adapter's drivers, as suggested above. On my laptop I found I had to disable the Ethernet adapter drivers before the Wifi adapter would detect my network. Also make sure your laptop's firewall isn't the culprit.

If the adapter seems good check your router to make sure its settings haven't been changed and compare those to your laptop's. You might reset your router and set up its Wifi properties again; Routers have been known to fail, after all.
