hi,
I just had my broadband account a couple of weeks ago, i was supplied with DSL ethernet modem, and subscribed for the 1.0/387 mbps but sadly i only get 420/220 kbps since day one.
I have made a report to my ISP and they said to me that they had reconfigured the thing for me but my speed is still half below from the package that i've subscribe.
So today some guy told me to go into modem access panel and change from PPPoE to PPPoA LLC and suprisingly i got my subscribed speed right away after i reboot the computer and modem.
So the question is why PPPoA is faster than PPPoE in my case? and how come my ISP never told me about this before?
Thanks

..why PPPoA is faster than PPPoE..
PPPoA is slightly faster than PPPoE in that PPPoA uses 8 fewer bytes of overhead in every 1500 byte packet.
how come my ISP never told me about this before?
Ask your ISP.

Increased complexity of the CPE setup. Help desk personnel at the service provider need to be more knowledgeable. Since the username and password are configured on the CPE, the subscriber or the CPE vendor will need to make setup changes. Using multiple VCs increases configuration complexity. This, however, can be overcome by an autoconfiguration feature which is not yet released.
