Why do i keep getting kicked off the internet? I'm using time warner cable connection, with a motorola surfboard modem. I am directly connected to the modem. Sometimes it works for 5 mins. sometimes 5 hours. The little internet lite on the modem goes out while playing games ( everquest ) and while surfing the internet. It comes back up shortly afterwords as well. Any advice would be awesome plz. THanks in Advance.

Have you asked your ISP?

So it keeps disconnecting you? Does it happen more at certain times of the day, eg peak hour?

If you connect directly from the modem to your PC, definitely call your provider. Either they are the problem, or the modem is.

If however, you have a SOHO Router between you and the internet connection, or you have a combination modem/router/wireless access point unit given to you by your ISP, then click on my name above in this response and read my “how-to” guide titled, “Troubleshooting Wireless Issues” and go through the steps listed there.

While the guide was written to help troubleshoot wireless issues specifically, the same troubleshooting steps are valid for a SOHO Router.
