my aunt's laptop. she bought an 802.11g wireless USB adapter for it to connect to her home network. installation went fine and everything, but it is only connecting at 11mbps consistantly (instead of 48-54mbps as it should), despite having very good signal strength. what is the deal??
I drive an awesome 1972 Trans Am 455 Super Duty that gets about 8-10mpg, but thats a small price to pay for such awesomeness.

I presume you mean a ROUTER when you mention Home Network ?
If so is the router 802.11g compatible, if not it will revert to 802.11b speed as that is the what the router is transmitting.

it is an 802.11g router, 54mbps ability. is 11mbps the 802.11b standard?? why is it not working at 54mbps when both the router and adapter are 54mbps aka 802.11g units????

I don't have an answer to your question but does it realy make a difference 11 or 54 mb?
The 266 is likely only capable of transferring data at at no greater than 4 mb and probably closer to 2 mb.
Additionally, is your internet connection directly connected via Fiber Optics? If not then I suspect you are not getting better than a 6 mb connection.
Either way the 11 mb is greater than the capabilites of the machine it is feeding.

Bryan

actually i have upgraded to CPU to 366mhz...

Hello Josh, with your wireless usb you would have received the software for it, in that software theres an option to keep the transfer speeds at 54Mbps constantly. If you didnt receive a software then i dont think you have an option mate.... Hope it works out...
