I have two Win XP Pro pc's connected via a wireless router. I have a problem with one of them whereby the root of my C:\ is shared! When I try to 'unshare' it I get the following message...
"This share was created for administrative purposes only. The Share will reappear when the Server service is stopped and restarted or the computer is rebooted. Are you sure you wish to stop sharing C$?"
Anyone have an idea of what service is causing this so I can disable it ?

This is a default Windows share. It can not be disabled. If you look at the system on the network you will see that this directory is not visible. This window share is not the same as setting a directory share for some one to access. It is an administrative function and while labeled a share that is not what is being provided.

Thanks for the reply. I'm slighty more re-assured. but...
How do I prevent somebody from mapping to it by simply typing in C$ ? (which I have tested and does work)
The reason I ask, is I'm unable to change the permissions of the 'windows share'
