Comment: I'm at university where we have all our computers connected to the network. Of course this is used to share a variety of files, but is there any way I can see who is accessing my Shared Folder and maybe send them a message / kick them off? Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Hi, In Windows '98 there is a monitor for this. On NT/2000 there is a utility to see what is currently going on, but I can't remember the name :(

Reply: (edit)Why have a shared folder if you don't want to share whats in it? Just remove the share, then no one will be in there.

Reply: (edit)in windows 2000, go into administrative tools in the control panel. In administrative tools, there should be a link called computer manager, go into this, under the option 'shared folders', there are 3 sub-folders, go into sessions, here you can see the users accessing your shared folders and close the session if necessary. In windows 95/98, there is an application (something like network monitor) in which you can see all the users accessing your pc. Hope this helps

Reply: (edit)Are you running windows xp pro? There is a local security auditing policy that you can set in windows xp professional using ntfs. Enabling object access will allow you to monitor users accessing shared folders. Reference this link. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q310399
