Hi, reading others posts has inclined me to believe I can find a resolution to a minor quirk I have. 3 PC's networked with firewall and hub. Two have Win98SE, logon with computer name using Client4MSN and are seen on the network accordingly. PC three with W98, upgraded regularly, will not bring up logon screen. It goes right to desktop and cannot be seen on the NN until I log off and log back in at which point it offers the computer name in C4MSN. I do not use passwwords since I am behind a firewall I share freely. I use static setting becuase I just like them better. I have removed Netbui and along with three of my techs have tried untold configurations and registry modifications to no avail. It simply will not logon auto to the network on a start-up. It is annoying my wife, who is suffering the fallout of our sometimes ill-fated attempts which change her settings. Help
P.S. If putting Win98SE was an option, I would, but she is not ready for it ???

Haha! It sounds to me like someone's got you by the doodads!!

Have you tried removing everything in your Network configuration and then adding them back? Everything - protocol, adapter, client for msn....Just a quick thought as i'm tired and about to head home.

That is the plan at this point, still irks me I cannot resolve it, nor can any techs I have asked. I was hoping I had just not asked the right one yet. Its ok, patience is my strong point.

Hey Kevin,

Do a search for *.pwl & delete all of the .pwl files you find. Set the Primary Network Logon to Client for Microsoft Networks. Reboot the PC & it should prompt you for a password. You can either type in "default" as a username & leave the password field blank to logon automatically or type in a user name you prefer. What ever you type in for a username will be saved as _____.pwl. Good luck!

Tried that a few times. Had to redo my network for Rogers pathetic changeover. I am stuck with a Lan City modem so in the process of changing my DNS entries I changed the host name hoping it was just that. Nope. Think I will work on that host file and try deleting pwl again. Stay tuned LOL

From this link

Remove AUTOLOGON KEY FROM "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net"
in registry or run autolog.inf from win98se cd in \tools\mtsutil directory
