Specs: Windows XP
We have a Dell desktop and a dell laptop. We are getting the internet through Charter Communications. What would be the best router to purchase so both computers can run the internet at the same time. The laptop has wireless capability built in.

My preference is netgear or dlink. I won't buy belkin or linksys anymore due to issues with these brands. You would of course want a wireless model.

Thanks for the help. If we are just surfing the net, posting/playing in Facebook - is there any particular model/size etc we should get?

What you do, like facebook, etc is determined by the isp ie. the supplier of your bandwidth.

What you want to look for is features in a router you can use.

For example I am real happy with my netgear WNDR3700 with a netgear wireless usb dongle. 300mbps is fantastic! And dual band 5g and 2.4g puts me ahead of the curve.

But then I am an IT guy so you may not need those perks.

I would suggest you start by going to newegg or bestbuy online. Look at the prices and determine your budget. Then look up reviews of the products to choose which appears to be best for you.

Wanderer ~ Thank you so much for the help. In situations like this I hate going directly to any store to ask for help. THey usually steer you towards the larger priced items then to find out I didn't "all that" anyway. Your help is greatly appreciated
