what is LM announce stands for in neighbourhood properties -> file and printer sharing for microsoft networks. And what happened when i off/on the value..?

LM announce is the local master browser announcement. i.e. if it enabled the computer is acting as a browser and it will provide infomation about other computers in the neighbourthood, if turned off the computer does not take part in providing this info...
