Hello What is a web server and how does it work and how can i create one. Also does anyone know what sites i can learn more on this. Thankx

Hey Titan, Ok Here goes I will try to explain to you an internet server as I understand it! A webserver can be as simple as one software program, sharing a file i.e. a html file, running on a pc with an internet connection. Or as complexed as an entire network of computers running multiple software aplications connected to a hi speed internet back bone connection. providing services such as E-commerce solutions, payment systems, database, shopping cart etc etc. So first you have to decide what you will use your web server for?? A simple website or a high end e-commerce solution!! If you have no or little experience in web servers I strongly suggest you start of the easy way for obvious reasons, then you can progress as your knowledge and understand increases. I am willing to help you set up your server, The reason i will help you is because when I set mine up I had no help really just a few bits and pieces I picked up from the net, and at first it was a lot less than easy. At the moment I have one server running Win XP with Html/Ftp/Email server software, and one running Mandrake Linux 9.0 with my sql, php etc. Win XP is used for basic html pages such as Silverhazemusic.co.uk (my band's website) When you go to this link you are accessing files from my computer in my bedroom in England. Linux is going to be used for my forth coming internet enterprise! I hope! I will run an online store using this computer, it will run shopping carts, credit card processing all the stuff you use when you go on any online store. I have just decided i will write a site for people who want to set up there own site and make it easy to use!!
