What happens if I turn on Computer...

Specs: Windows XP Professional, Pentium(R) 4 1.7ghz - 512 ram
What happens if I turn on Computer someday, and it doesn't work? ...I have no OS disc or any way to save OS...I have no burner (at present time). Can I save system restore (entire Hard Drive OS) plus a couple programs (Open Office & 1 other small wp.) on a USB flash drive? I think a 8 gb flash will hold everything on my hard drive w/plenty of room left over. Can I boot & restore my Hard Drive OS & programs from a USB flash?

If you can get a USB memory stick that's big enough to hold a backup I'd do so. If not, an external (USB) drive that's large enough would be the way to go.

I would definitely recommend a backup with "system state" as well as all data and files that are important to you.

Alternatively, if you went the external drive route, you could make an image of your PC and store it on the external drive.

I suppose I will find out what an "image" of my entire system is some day....but, maybe u could tell me now. That sounds just what I'm looking for. But, I didn't want to buy an extrernal hard drive just yet. Don't store stuff on this hard drive. Just the 2 wp's I mentioned & AVP program to protect system. Oh ya, have Adobe reader 9 on here too. That it...Store wp docs on a USB (Sansdisc...Cruzer...8 gigs). Would like to back up this system exactly as it is now....with nutt'n on it. Can u do it on one of those pocket (key chain) Cruzer USB sticks? Bought this computer just to search on line and plug in to my data line. Have another computer (laptop with bigger ram & hard drive).

Right click your C: drive -> go to the Properties menu -> Select the Tools tab -> Select Backup -> follow the directions in the Wizard and get some one to help you.
