WGR614v6 Netgear Router problem

I've had this router for about 4 years and have never had any problems until now. I've seen on here that others experienced the same years ago but no real solution as to what the cause is.

I recently moved a short distance in my town and since reconnecting my computer and routing it to my son's via Eithernet cable, I've had bubble messages pop up whenever his computer is on that a "network cable is unplugged". When this happens, all the terminal lights light up for a few seconds, then back to normal. I've checked the connections and even replaced the Eithernet cable between the router and his computer. Nothing has helped.

I am at a lose because everything worked just fine prior to moving. Also, when we plug the Eithernet cable for his computer directly into the cable box, his works fine, just as mine does when his computer is turned off.

Are these signs that the router has gone bad?

This is a distinct possiblity. Have you tried connecting your son into a different LAN port on the router?

If it were me at this point I would first check for a firmware update for your router. If there is one, apply it and see if the issue goes away. If there is no firmware update try resetting it to factory defaults and try it then.

If either/or of the above doesn't work, I would then consider buying a new one.
