Well I dont have Verizon, I have a bellsouth dsl westell so maybe I can help ya a little.

When you say manual direction are you talking about actually typing the modems IP into the webbrowser like 192.168.1.254, and then trying to forward it?

With my westell I had to go into expert mode, and from there I believe it was something called NAT(something) and there you could either choose a predefined port to forward or make your own.

Not next to my modem at the moment sorry I couldnt help you more

You can do it on your router settings or on Win XP firewall which I think will override the router settings. On Win XP, you just go into Control Panel and the Network Connections, Windows Firewall, and click Exceptions. Add the port. Check the Verizon and Westell 327 forums here:

Access your Westell router settings here:

Hi;
I can tell you how to get to the firewall. Go to the network connections in the control panel. Under advanced tab will be the firewall. I have Verizon myself. If I can help, let me know.
