I have a vaio laptop which originally had vista home premium installed. we down graded it to XP pro but now the wireless internet from our router which the laptop used to pick up doesnt work!! The laptop is seeing our home network but can not log on!! I am no wizz with this stuff can anyone help??

You have to install the driver for the wireless card. That's why it doesn't work. Look at the device manager to for any red or yellow marks.

As far as WEP or WPA goes, WPA is the better of the two. I crack WEP on a regular basis. WPA is more secure but I would use MAC filtering on any wireless setup.

its relatively painless to set up
here's a step by step how to for xp ;

but before you do that you will need the network name (ssid) of the wireless network your connecting to* and the encryption type eg wep , wpa etc, and the passkey.
(*maybe more than one in your area.)

this info is obtainable from the person who set the router / network up & or the router itself heres an example note this one is set up for wpa

(get into the router settings requires you to connect by ethernet cable or usb if it has that option)

grab your router manual and a coffee / T there may be an easy setup disk or push button option
