I have a notebook that is connected to the web/network wirelessly using a linksys router. WEP is enabled. I understand 128 is more secure than 64 BUT is 128 necessary in a home application? Its also my understanding that 128 will slow down the connection speed (transfer rate) is it that noticeable? What are you guys/gals using. THanks, J.

Don't understand last users comment on WEP , it's not good practice to use no encryption at all . While WEP isn't extremely strong it will keep the casual user from hanging onto your network . you can probably get away with 64 bit , I use 128 and don't see any ill effects from it . Besides think about it you have a 11 meg wireless connection and you are trying to shove all that down to a at max 2 meg internet connection so it really isn't going to matter unless you are transferring large files between computers just on your home network . Also for added security implement mac address filtering on your router, this will really help keep wireless users off your network .

As your using XP if your setup can use it then you should be using WAP as its more secure than WEP.
If your really worried about security then change access code regularly.
