Hello. I am currently experiencing a weird network problem. We have a 50 PC NT 4 network with static IP addresses. We had to move some PCs because people were moving. We did not change the IP address but the PC will not connect to the network. If the PC is placed where it came from it has no problem connecting. I have done this in the past without any problem. Our IP scheme is 192.168.0.xxx Any ideas what may be causing this problem. It is happening with two PCs. Thanks.

how far away are you moving them from the nearest repeater / active hub? and do you happen to have a linksys router?

Cycle your network switches? These may think the PCs are at their old port numbers.

Do you need to have static IPs ?

If not then use DHCP on your Server, that way the IPs are dished out when and where you need them, and you wont have to worry about doubling up IPs, which can cause PCs not to function if they are using a used IP.

I would check the cable or change it, do you get a pulse on the hub or NIC ? Get a cable checking gismo, coz one wire out on a patch panel can make your life a misery !!

Speaking from experience !!
