Weird Connection Troubles

April 19, 2011 at 16:50:17
Specs: Windows 7
Ok I am having a weird connection problem,
I am trying to connect 3 laptops to a network, Lets call Laptop 1 ORIGINAL and the other 2 laptops LEACHERS.
The LEACHERS can not get an internet connection if the ORIGINAL computer is turned off, All computers can connect to the wireless network, and if All computers are on they can All connect to the internet. If the ORIGINAL computer gets shut off the LEACHERS loose internet connection, although they are still connected to the network. I have tried resetting the router cloneing MAC addresses and really dont know where to go from here. Can you guys point me in the right direction and what info do I need to give you guys to help me further.

Thanks
Josh

Sounds like you're using ICS (internet connection service) at the ORIGINAL laptop and the other laptops are connecting to the internet through the ORIGINAL laptop.

Let the router establish the connection to the internet.
Also turn on DHCP service in the routers setup.

Configure all laptops to get ip address and DNS server automatically via DHCP.
The laptops should get an ip address of the range 192.168.x.x automatically and should be able to surf the internet, even if the ORIGINAL laptop is powered off.
