website access What is Browser Checker?

January 8, 2010 at 11:53:59
Specs: Windows XP
I can't access a website on my laptop while connected to my work network (either by cable or wirelessly.) I can access the website while connected to an outside network. Other computers connected on the same network have no problems accessing this website. This has only been a problem for about 3 months.

While the website it trying to load, the browser title bar reads "Browser Checker."

Hi Texas - this is The Lounge forum, which is not for technical queries such as this.

Would think the best place to post, would be the Networking or Windows XP forum.

However, is your work network manager able to assist

The problem suggests you have a browser checker (BC), which works differently when connected via your work network.

Are you able to identify which BC you have?
If so, it may require updating or configuring.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I wasn't sure where to put this problem. I've never even heard of a Browser Checker. I'll definitely look into that. The tech guys at work are stumped by this craziness.

Thanks so much, Mike. I really appreciate your response. :)

Hi Texas - it looks like one of the Administrators has moved this to the network forum

Try googling (as I did):-

Browser Checker

Although there are many hits, you may find one or more that help.

Please post back if you ascertain the cause and/or cure to your problem.

Have you tried testing different browsers e.g. Internet Explorer and Firefox, to see if the same failure occurs. If not, it would help to isolate the cause.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

thanks, Mike.

I've tried both IE and Firefox. I think the problem has to be between my laptop and our network, since I can access the website on my laptop when I use an outside wireless connection.

I'm still working through google hits to see if anything looks promising.

Thanks again :)
