Hi,
I have a problem
Please help.
I want to set up my machine as a web server.
MS Windows server 2003 installed.
DNS and IIS Installed.
I have domain names www.a1.com,www.a2.com and www.a3.com
I have adsl router that has static ip 81.xxx.xxx.xxx
I enabled DMZ on router and set my mach ip
if i type adresses http://81.xxx.xxx.xxx/a1
http://81.xxx.xxx.xxx/a2
http://81.xxx.xxx.xxx/a3
they show the web pages under my iis
but i want to show them when i type www.a1.com
www.a2.com
www.a3.com
so i registered ns1.a1.com and ns2.a1.com to my modem's ip 81.xxx.xxx.xxx
after that i set all dns settings to dns_1: ns1.a1.com
dns_2: ns2.a1.com
when i typed ping ns1.a1.com. tries to ping 81.xxx.xxx.xxx but no response
and i couldn't connect my mach typing www.a1.com
what should i do?
Thanks.

you will need domain name servers runinn on yr PC to forward requests to the appropriate apache account on yr machine.....

also

if you are running behind a router, you cant access your webserver via yr external IP, only internal such as 192.168.1.2

There are two issues here.

1) "when i typed ping ns1.a1.com. tries to ping 81.xxx.xxx.xxx but no response "
The reason you got no response is, most likely, because your router is configured not to respond to ping. The ns1.a1.com address resolves correctly though, which is a good thing. Don't worry about the ping.

2) The second issue is DNS. By "set[ting] all dns settings to dns_1: ns1.a1.com dns_2: ns2.a1.com" you have directed any DNS queries for the a1.com domain to your computer (or, rather, your router's external IP address). This is fine, but you will need to do two things to make it work.

-Properly configure DNS on your Windows 2003 server for the a1.com domain

-Forward UDP port 53 on your router to the internal IP address of the computer running the DNS server.
