Hi, everyone!

I wanna brush up on my server knowledge and was wondering what websites to look at to read about webservers, ie. How they work, how to use them and so forth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!

Vivi.

so long as you realize wikipedia is not necessarily correct in everything it states (assuming a general, loose definition of "correct"), then it's a great starting point.

I would recommend that you don't just use the web for information but browse in your local, good bookstore. Perhaps buy a book on it. IN my experience you can save a lot of time by just getting a good book written by experts in the field.

Good luck!

I would recommend setting up an Apache webserver (free) if you have a spare computer and have at it. Most of the documentation is on the web, and if you prefer books, that is also available. For a computer you don't need much, I have tried it on both Windows 98 SE and Red Hat Linux. Windows on a 300 MHz Celeron, Linux on a 486DX2-66.

I think a good server to start with is Liteserve by Perception.
I use Liteserve 2.3 on my portal (which is on my domestic lan) and i previously used Litesewrve 1.4 and have never had any problems save for the incompatibility with some upload scripts which i don't use anymore.
Liteserver is very easy and has a txt file which explains all functions.

Thanx everyone! I won't worry about setting up a web server at this point of time but I just want to study up on them a little bit. :)
