Comment:

My internet connection occasionally goes offline (LAN > SpeedTouch510Router > ADSL)
Probably due to not having all the outlets fitted with a splitter...

BUT my question is:
Is it possible to do a WARM reboot of the router instead of having to do a cold one each time it goes offline?

Does anyone know any good(&free) network monitoring programs?

Karens Lan monitor is a good free tool for looking at you systems LAN/Dialup usage and TCP/IP activity.

Did you mean you don't have DSL Microfilters on all devices on the phone line? You may have to use them to isolate sections of the phone line.

No, the makers of SOSH routers don't provide any way to do a soft reset them other than power cycling them. You can put your router and modem on a separate power bar and use its switch to power cycle them.

Hey JackG,

Thanx for your response - and that one to my Hello?Modem? -Post earlier.

My mistake: it's indeed the filters I was referring to...
I was going to buy some today (Saturday - Belgium) but can you believe it: shop not open!

I hope this problem will vanish when I do get them 'cause I don't think any machine likes being rebooted that much.

Anyhow... thanx again for your response, and I hereby also post you Best Wishes for 2004!

Hi JackG,

This post is just to remind me of a trick I found while trying to outwit this thing(to prevent reboots on the router).

The router has HTML setup pages built-in that can be accessed through IE. If I save a working config to file, and I upload that one to the router whenever it's behaviour needs a reboot, then this does have a re-initializing effect which replaces the need for a reboot on the little fellow.

It does take a while, but I assume it's a machine-friendlier way of dealing with it.
