I have Road Runner DSL service on a WindowsMe computer in my home and want to share that internet service with another computer in my home running Windows 98. I have a LINKSYS 5-Port Workgroup Hub, but I do not see how it could work since there are no RJ45 connections on the back of the Cable Modem, a Toshiba PCX1000. I need simple step-by-step directions as I have never done anything like this before. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jackie

how does your cable modem connect to your pc, USB? either way just connect both computers to a hub, and off of your "powerhouse" computer download and install a proxy server...carefull when you select because some are hard to configure while others don't support all protocols.

Easiest one I've used was proxy+ though I couldn't use the email forwarding feature...

I have just completed a similar feat.

Goto http://www.practicallynetworked.com - Sharing section & work through the instructions.

I still had a problem on my Win98 PC. The solution was to re-set TCP/IP on this PC.
I set the gateway to the IP address of the host (Me) machine.

Enabled DNS & Set the host name to my Me PC's network name (leaving domain blank) and added it's address to the search order.
(This info was contained in the middle of a very long Trouble shooting article in Microsoft's knowledge base)

That got it working.
