If anyone can help out here, it would be much appreciated. I have a W2K and Win98SE computer networked, they can see each other fine but (for example) when i'm trying to access a file or directory off of the other computers HD i get a long delay; 2-3 minutes; and usually this message.
"computername\\dir is not accessible. An unexpected network problem occurred."
Then when i try changing the directory again it again takes 2-3 mins but allows me to change the directory.
Just installed W2K and I'm using a new router and wondering if perhaps the router could possibly be the problem. Workgroup and network settings have been double checked... i'm stumped.

You could try creating a hosts file on each machine with the other machine's IP address to help them locate eachother more easily.

This is probably a problem with one or both auto-sensing the communication speed on the NICs. Set the both to the speed they should run at (either 10 or 100) instead of Autosense, and it will probably clear up.
