End user for Company A is having VPN connectivity issues to a remote server over dial up POPs. User is able to see some remote shares over the Cisco VPN client, but there is a particular share that he cannot connect to. Receives the error "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occurred: An extended error has occurred."
Error Message:
The local device name is already in use.
Explanation:
You specified a resource with a local device name that is already being used.
User Action:
Try the request again, using a different device name. Your choices are A: through Z: for directory device names, LPT1: through LPT9: for printer device names, and COM1: through COM9: for communications device names.
I opened "my computer". I could see H/I/J drives. I deleted/disconnected I and J drives. I shutdown the computer.
I restarted the computer. I connected via POP. Once connected, I opened and connected via VPN (Cisco) to Company A. I opened "my computer". I double clicked on the MRP2 drive and the drive opened and I could see/open files on the drive (this drive is on the exchange.com domain). I clicked on the 'back' button. I next double clicked on the h drive, same error message as before (on my computer, see attached). I next attempted to map drive 'J'. Error message received was "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occurred: An extended error has occurred.". Note that the H/I/J drives are on the Amer domain.
I also went to "my network places". I followed path down to exchange domain and I could see any/all drives and files. I next followed path to Amer.com domain, I could see many sub directories under Amer. I located ussdi-net01 and attempted to expand it, could NOT see the H/I/J drives.
disconnected VPN and DUN. Re-connected via broadband and was successful in remapping all drives, following all paths in "my network places' was also successful.Bottom line is, while connected via cisco VPN and ISP1dial up or broadband, the user is able to access all drives however when connected using ISP2 dial up, can only access certain drives.
I know ISP POPs are not the issue since clearly the VPN works because some shares are accessible. The problem is why are only some accessible with ISP2 and all are accessible with ISP1 and broadband? Is this a Domain routing issue? Possibly WINs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well... first the obvious.
When you compare the properties of the connections to both ISP's, what's the difference? I mean: bindings, provider order, security, protocols, etc?
If you're running XP SP2, is there a difference in the advanced XP firewall settings for the DUN connections?
