Hi,
I'm trying to set up a tunnel(VPN) to allow an incomming connection into my win2k server. The server is currently performing routing and remote access as well as Network address translation. Will I be able to enter the LAN and use any of the resources?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,Dave

What kind of VPN are you using PPTP or IPsec.
I would not use win2k server as a VPN server, I would buy a VPN router. The one I own is a Snapgear Lite + or about $300 US. It's has a stateful firewall, IPsec,PPTP server and client, DHCP server and so much more and It's small in size . It works great , I use the IPsec VPN all the time with my friends, I don't have to worry about hackers no more. The router is very easy to setup, very easy...another thing you don't need to buy extra licenses, under micosoft you do....BIG savings there...visit there website for more info..www.snapgear.com

Thanks Brian!
I guess I'm trying to be too cheap.
Using an old machine, Pentium 166, running win2k routing services I guess I got my moneys worth out of that old machine. I'm able to run ZoneAlarm for firewall, share cable modem with 3 other systems for my home network, run various applications, troubleshoot and control network usage, what was I thinking trying to squeeze a little more out of the old machine? VPN is not a necessity for me at this time. It would be much easier to purchase your appliance I agree. However, I like the idea of trying to squeeze it into my old machine. What are the advantages/disadvantages for a win2k computer performing services vs. a VPN router/firewall performing services. Which is capable of doing more?Dave

A good firewall, for starters, you could be hacked. I thought you wanted to setup a VPN? VPN use alot of CPU's cycles, a 166 machine will not cut it. I have a 1.4 gig running my 2000 server, but I have my router handling my VPN connections, so when I turn off my server , my VPN connection stays up.
Zonealarm is okay, but I would not use that in a production machine with vitial info around, you get what you pay for

A 2000 server is just that, a Server not a good firewall and router. Bill and everyone around him thinks this 2000 server can do everything well , it can't.
