I am trying to do a remote desktop connection using XP. However, the first step is to create a VPN connection. When it comes to user name and password. I am confused. Is the user name self create or it is from server. But my company do not have a server.

Why do you think VPN is the first step to using Remote Desktop? It's not. Is the computer you want to access on the same network as the one you want to access from?

Again I ask, is the computer you want to access on the same network as the one you are currently using and want to access from?
