Guys, I'm just a little bit confused. From what I understand a VPN is just a secure way to access your home network shares from a remote location.

Now days im hearing about all this VPN Tunneling and im curious as to how I might set this up. I know how to create a VPN Connection in XP/2k3 or any windows based OS, but creating a secure VPN tunnel that I can route my traffic through while im at say a starbucks or something I'm a little lost.

I read about something called OpenVPN but haven't found a well written tutorial on setting it up and getting it to work properly.

Anyone know of any alternative, links? Thanks in advance.

A vpn might be considered a secure link between two trusted computers. It secures the link not the original computer from damage to your computer. If you use a kiosk computer it may cause quite a bit of damage to your system. Your system would normally view all settings on your vpn'ed computer as a trusted lan computer.

Consider the older version of barracudadrive at softpedia. It has a simple way to access your home via https.

All VPN's require some detailed configuration. To make it worse, some may not be secure.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

So with this barracudadrive, I can route my WAN traffic through a home VPN connection running on this 2k3 machine?

Sorry, I may have mis-read that. If you have a win2003 server then you should be able to configure a VPN server that is quite secure. You do not need openvpn or barracudadrive.

Start here. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...

Yea I can configure a VPN fine. What I'm trying to do is tunnel all my internet traffic through a VPN remotely. Locally as well if possible, mainly for the knowledge and experience.
