VPN thru Linksys

I have a user who is trying to VPN into our network. They just replaced their wireless router with a Linksys Wireless G. He is able to connect via VPN. He is issued a new IP address, but he cannot open Outlook (message saying the Exchange server is unavailable). I had him ping the mail server while he was connected, but it didn't work. He couldn't ping the host name either. Any suggestions?
