I've got 5 sites:

Head Office:
Linux server
Windows Server 2003
4096/256k ADSL

The ADSL modem is connected to a Linux server, which had the accounts for VPN connections, and also gives internet to the Windows server.

There are 4 other remote sites, each with a 4096/256k ADSL connection, A broadband router, and 2-6 computers.

Each remote computer dials a seperate VPN connection to the linux server. I would like to have 1 VPN connection at each site, and all computers in that site connect through it. The VPN I use was PPTP

At preseant the router dials the internet connection. I was wondering if instead I could set the ADSL modem to dial the internet connection, and instead the router dials a PPTP connection to the linux server.

Is this possible? I would appreciate any comments/suggestions

PS: I want to avoide leased lines, etc... as they are way to expensive

Cheers!

If you have extra computers to convert to Linux, there are a few free downloadable Linux distros that support VPN, so you can deploy them to the remote sites and uplink them with your home office Linux box.

If the thought of troubleshooting and administering Linux boxes seems daunting, your simpliest solution would be to by VPN routers for each site and uplink them. If the ADSL connections require dialing in for Internet, most routers support PPPoE for DSL dialing. I've tried the FVS328 and 338 Netgears routers and they were pretty flaky on me. I think the Linksys solutions may be too lightweight. I'd probably say go with either the SonicWall TZ170's or something from Watchguard.

Thanks. I'll definatly avoid Linux, as I'm not much of a linux guru.

The Sonic Wall seems to be exactly what I was looking for.

Cheers!
