VPN (SSL / https) disconnects

Greetings, We have some remote sites (connected via VSATs or wireless) connecting to the HQ using a VPN (SSL connection using https) to a CISCO (ASA) router for internet/email etc.
The problem is that the connection gets disconnected in random segments of half hour or hourly (e.g. 1/2hour, 1 hour/2hours/3 etc) when the clients are using the connection (i.e browsing etc).
If there is no activity and ssl connection (VPN) is just established, then it doesn't get disconnected.
Please assist.

FYI the issue has been resolved. The problem was something that wouldn't even strike anyone - a 3Com (managable) switch that was somewhere in the middle of the links.
This switch was not even suspected but was removed due to link degradations and it resolved the issue.
The link performance was improved by almost 25% and it also resolved other issues of copying files over the satellite/wireless networks.
Summary: You can VPN into a modem, but it will be VERY SLOW and it might time out. Here is a link to a website that shows you what a VPN does. http://www.cyplex.com/vpnproc.html ...
