Hi there.

I work at a College and we have having a problem printing once connected from remote site.

We have a Main Site with subnets 10.1.7.0 - 10.1.24.0 all with subnet mask off 255.255.255.0

We have a remote site which is a small site with a netgear adsl router... All the pcs and a specific printer is on a 192.168.0.0 range. The printer is 192.168.0.10.

We have a program on a vpn server at the main site where we run finance program. The problem is we need to add the printer at the small site onto the main server and have them print back to the printer where thy are. Which is the printer with the ip adress of 192.168.0.10..

As far as i can see the main VPN server doesnt know how to get to the 192.168.0.0 subnet.. How do we go about adding this route

Thanks soo much

Shaun

I am taking it that your using a routing protocol? like Cisco eigrp? or RIP? on your 10.x.x.x network? , your going to need to add that 192.168.x.x network in to your routing tables some how, you most likely going to need need to add a static route to that VPN connection from the 10.x.x.x network, and re-distubute that static route into your routing tables .( your 10.x.x.x) network..

when u connect trought vpn to 10.1.7.0 - 10.1.24.0 u become an outsider to the 192.168.0.0 range therefore u must create a trust between the two networks then add in the dns server the other small network.the printer must be a part off a trusted domain, only then it can be accesed from another network (when conected in vpn....u are member of the domain u just entered...not the one from where u came)

What are you talking about, he can't even ping it? what makes you think he can even setup a trust?, without a route from 192.168.x.x to the 10.x.x.x network, how is even going to do anything?

Thanks.. Well yes I can ping anything on the main network... I get a 10.1.7.0 adress when i am connected.. But the problem is I want to get back to the printer on the network from which i did the vpn connection... In this case the 192.168.0.0 network... But im not sure if the route must go in the adsl router from the 192.168.0.0 site or our layer 3 netgear switch...

you need to add the route on your netgear layer 3 switch, and setup at static route going to the vpn gateway, and as I said you need to re-distubute the static route into your most likely rip routes..
