I want to make use of my voip from my office as well as my home. I want to purchase 2 linksys pap2 ata devices and have conventional phones plugged into them.
My question is... what happens if i have both devices on at the same time? Will they both take and make calls or will both stop working all together?

You'll have to go through a VoIP provider for this so I suspect you'd have to ask them about it.
As I understand it, you're wanting to use the same phone number at both places. I know this can be done with analog/digital and I can't see any reason why it couldn't be done with VoIP as well. Especially considering it's simple enough to ensure both devices have different IP addresses.

You can't use the same number in two places. How is the phone switch going to know which one to route the call to? This is not the same as having two phones on the same wire.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Actually wanderer, I know for a fact with analog phones, you can. It simply sends it to both places at the same time.
A while back a friend was moving into a new house. They took 2 months to do the move (wanted to do some reno's on the new house prior to moving in) so for the duration, had their phone number connected to both places because they never knew which one they would be at at any given time.
It makes sense to me you could do this with VoIP as well. As I said previously, the phones themselves would have different IP's (allowing both to be online and working at the same time) and if it's possible, which I think it should be, you could have the same number wired to both. Simply put, you should be able to use the same TN on both connections which would make both the same phone number and both ring at the same time.
Again, call your VoIP provider and ask them, they'll be able to give you a definitive answer to your question.

I did ask and they do allow two ATA devices, so when a call is taken both will ring which is really cool. Wasnt expecting it to be possible.
Thanks all.
