vista wireless OK at home, not elsewhere

Specs: Windows Vista
We use a Belkin router at home and our Sony Vaio with Vista connects faultlessly by wireless. It will not connect wirelessly elsewhere: we get Local but not Internet. Yes, we do refresh the worelss connections list and use passwords where required. This has happened at several sites.

Are you sure that the other sites are opened to the public?

How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Yes - one of the wireless sites is my daughters.

We may be naive - should we be manually disconnecting from our home site before going out to use other sites. I don't do this with my own XP based laptop which will connect to anything it can find.

You shouldn't have to do anything. It disconnects when you shutdown the machine to transport it. Make sure that all firewalls are off. That includes Zone Alarm & any AV garbage that may be running.
