i have 2 pc's networked using tcp/ip and a crossover cable.

pc #1: win2kpro, 10/100 linksys pci, 192.168.1.10

pc #2: win98se, 10/100 linksys pci, 192.168.1.2

i CAN ping either way, but when it comes to transferring files, it it so slow. the NICs connect at 100mbps. i swapped a 3c509b 10mbps isa card on both pc's and the problem is still there. any file bigger than 10mb and i lose the network. any idea on this? do i need to put a gateway? thanks.

Borrow a hub and 2 normal patch leads. If this works OK then it's your cable. Or try your cable on another 2 PC's.

Of course this is no good if you have not got a friend with a hub.
