Hi - I have four computers connected to a Linksys 4-port router which is connected to a Cable modem. 3 computers have very good connection speed to the internet but one is slower than 56K modem. All are running WinXP Home and all have same NIC. What can the problem be?

Take the PC that is having the problem and put it in another port on the router. Does the problem stay with the PC or does the other PC have the slow access problem? At least it will narrow the problem down.
Later!

Its not the port - changing ports does not help the original computer - its still slow

Pam,
How does this one XP differ from the other 3? Hardware and Services wise. Do you have them networked and this one is running ICS? Just seems like were missing one little piece of the puzzle. Sorry, I just don't have enough information to make an educated guess. If I had the problem I would remove all hardware variables first, then work on communication and driver settings. Mayby some one else on here has seen the problem or knows (which is very likely). Hope you get it resolved!

On the slow PC go to start run and type cmd Enter. Then type: ping www.yahoo.com. You should be in the range of 50ms to 100ms. (Check it against the good PC's also) If so do you have a firewall or antivirus running on that PC? Try shutting them off first. Now check your connection. Since your other PC connect fine then I think your bottleneck is with antivirus or firewall software.

Good Luck!
