Very low bandwidth from router

September 20, 2010 at 04:24:40
Specs: Windows 7, 2gb
I have a cable modem and router in the living with one pc hooked directly to the router which has great bandwidth. I also have a pc in the bedroom (about 30 ft. away) that has a good signal from the router but the bandwidth is so low that I can't even stream a youtube video. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I take it that this PC in the bedroom 30 ft away is connecting via wireless. In which case it is to be expected. Wireless was never a substitute for wired and a drop in bandwidth is to be expected.

However, as you don't give any numbers it is impossible to tell if this drop is within expected limits or there might be some other problem.

Router model, Internet connection bandwidth, wired and wireless would be useful.

The router is a netgear and the model number is wgr614v9. On the pc in the living room I did a speed test and it had about 30 mgb download speed and about 3 mgb upspeed. The one in the bedroom which is wireless has less than 1 mgb downspeed. The upload is also slower. Do you think I should run a 50 ft. ethernet chord?

Yes either hard wire or use Powerline Adaptors:
