My verizon dsl for the past 2 days has been 32kbs down 100kbs up. I am supposed to get 768kbs. So what this is telling me, is that my high speed internet is slower than standard dial up. They sent a tech guy out and they said they don't know whats wrong with the internet and said my computer might need a new nic. How can that be true when I brought my pc over my neighbors house, who by the way also has verizon dsl and got blazing speed over there with "MY" modem.

Might look at the task manager's network performance tab when you do a speed test to a dsl speed test site.

A more complex test would be to use performance monitor but a bit technical.

At idle your bandwidth ought to be almost nothing. It should connect about 100mbs. If 10 I'd be suspect of config or even cables.
At speed test you can figure out bits to bytes and guess if numbers are similar to what you see.

I like to use live cd/dvd's to compair my windows to a linux os (or barts) if hardware is suspect.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Queston...did you take your pc or your DSL modem to your friends house and get normal speed...???

If it was your pc, then I would suspect nothing wrong with your NIC...

If you took your DSL modem, disconnected your friends modem, connected yours in it's place and got normal speed, then I would suspect your modem is ok and the problem is in your comptuer...

Now...I don;t know anything about Verizon, but I do do quite a bit of work with ATT/SBC dsl lines and I can tell you this...

IF...Verizon is supplying your land line phone service and your DSL service, then they are responsible for providing the minimum agreed upon service rate...

If you go to www.dslreports.com and do a speed test and it still comes in at 32 down and 100 up...then I would call their support line, and DEMAND a tech show up and FIX IT...

Remember, DSL comes in thru the copper lines that your normal phone servie is on...DSL requires more bandwidth than voice communications...and if a copper connection has come loose someplace between your house the the DSLAM, that could effect your speed...then Verizon is responsible and they need to find the problem and fix it...

Good luck

I am with Verizon and my connection speed rate at the moment is 3360 KBits/Sec (down) by 864 KBits/Sec (up). The only time I have experienced connection droppings is when there is a systemwide disruption in my area. The disruption is very seldom - I hardly remember the last time it happened.

Another thing to remember that is of paramount importance is the distance between your home and the CO (Central Office). The further you are from the CO the less down/up speed you get.

I hope you don't mind my asking - what modem are you using?

Another thought...depending on the Verizon tech you talk to...level I or level II may determine what test facilities he has access to to test your line...

Call them, insist on a level II tech...

Ask him to do a distance test, Ping your modem...get a response rate...ask him if the results are within tolerance for the distance from the DSLAM you are...

They should be able to test everything on their side of the modem connection, but they may not be able to test anything on YOUR side of the modem...

I have had a number of cases in the past year or two where the ATT tech says everything is ok with the modem...

I replace the modem and everything then works fine...

This may come down to a modem replacement...

Also be mindful that DSLReport.com has three forums dedicated to Verizon at the link below - for FoIS & DSL. Click on the service of your choice will take you to its respective Forum.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ile...

You may wish to plow through the threads to see if other have had the same problem as yours .and how they resolved it. That's where I usually go before calling the Tech Support. Like every other companies, Verizon also has outsourced this service to the Far East (who hasn't anyway), and every technicians are trained to go by script only.
